A Hindu prayer focused on peace, harmony, and unity was presented at the White House during the National Day of Prayer observance, reflecting the religious diversity that continues to shape the United States as the nation approaches its 250th anniversary of independence.
The prayer was delivered by a volunteer associated with the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha, widely known as BAPS. The organization stated that the participation symbolized the inclusion of Hindu traditions within national interfaith gatherings in the United States.
At the beginning of the prayer session, attendees were invited to pause for reflection by closing their eyes and folding their hands. The volunteer then recited sacred Hindu chants centered on peace and spiritual well-being. Repeated invocations of “Shanti” emphasized a message of calmness, harmony, and universal goodwill.
According to BAPS, the prayer represented a call for peace across humanity and nature while encouraging unity among people from different backgrounds and beliefs. The ceremony also highlighted the importance of spiritual understanding in promoting compassion and coexistence in society.
The representative concluded the prayer by expressing gratitude to the organizers and acknowledging the participation of the BAPS community, including the Swaminarayan Akshardham located in Robbinsville, New Jersey. Tribute was also paid to spiritual leader Mahant Swami Maharaj for guiding the organization’s message of service and harmony.
In a statement shared on social media following the event, BAPS Public Affairs said the organization felt honored to participate in the National Day of Prayer gathering hosted at the White House. The organization described the occasion as an opportunity to contribute to a broader message of faith, unity, and collective hope.
Earlier during the observance, President Donald Trump released a statement recognizing the country’s long-standing tradition of prayer and religious faith. In his remarks, he reflected on the role spirituality has played throughout American history and emphasized gratitude as the country prepares to commemorate 250 years of independence.
Trump also spoke about the historical connection between faith and America’s founding era, referencing moments during the struggle for independence when national leaders turned toward prayer and reflection for guidance and strength.
The White House event brought together representatives from different faith communities, reinforcing the role of interfaith dialogue and spiritual diversity in contemporary American society.
