The Union Cabinet has approved four multi-tracking railway projects with a combined investment of Rs 9,450 crore, giving a major boost to railway infrastructure and connectivity across Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the projects will strengthen passenger and freight movement while helping reduce congestion and improve logistics efficiency across the four states.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said the enhanced railway connectivity would also support commerce and tourism, creating wider economic benefits for the regions covered by the projects.
The multi-tracking works are expected to increase the capacity of key railway routes and improve the movement of goods and passengers. By easing congestion on existing networks, the projects are also aimed at making freight transportation more efficient and supporting supply chains.
The improved connectivity is expected to benefit businesses by facilitating faster movement of goods between major production and consumption centres. Better rail infrastructure could also strengthen access to important commercial, industrial and tourism destinations across Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
The government has been focusing on expanding railway capacity and modernising infrastructure as part of its broader efforts to improve connectivity and logistics efficiency. The latest approvals are expected to contribute to these efforts while supporting economic activity and regional development.
The projects will further strengthen India’s rail network and provide additional capacity for both passenger and freight services, reinforcing the role of railways in the country’s infrastructure and economic growth.
