Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State overseeing Science and Technology, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy, and Space, has revealed plans for 45 international capacity-building initiatives aimed at training 1,750 international civil servants in the upcoming fiscal year 2023-24.
Responding in writing to an inquiry in the Lok Sabha, Dr. Jitendra Singh detailed that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has allocated a total of Rs. 17,60,26,500 (equivalent to US$ 2,128,653.26) to facilitate the capacity-building of 1,425 international civil servants hailing from countries such as Bangladesh, Cambodia, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Gambia. The allocation also covers multi-country courses targeting African Countries, the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC), the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), and the Latin American Countries (LAC) region. Moreover, it encompasses a specialized e-Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) course titled “special programme on emerging governance practices.”
Dr. Jitendra Singh further informed that the National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) has been actively involved in training civil servants from various nations. By July 2023, for the fiscal year 2023-24, an allocated sum of Rs. 6,13,67,500 (equivalent to US$ 742,104.90) has been sanctioned for this purpose.
The total count of participants who have received training includes 2,099 individuals from Bangladesh, 818 from Maldives, 97 from Myanmar, 49 from Gambia, 19 from various African Countries (including Kenya, Tanzania, Tunisia, and Seychelles), and 30 from Cambodia.
