Actress Anjali Arora is set to portray Mata Sita in the upcoming mythological film Shri Ramayan Katha, directed by Abhishek Singh. The actress has described the opportunity as a blessing and recalled how she was first approached for the role.

Anjali said that she regularly visits a Hanuman temple every Tuesday and prays for what is meant for her. She connected the opportunity to play Mata Sita with those prayers, saying she felt the role may have come to her as a blessing.

Recalling the initial meeting with the director, Anjali said Abhishek Singh showed her an AI-generated image depicting her as Sita. She was surprised by the image and initially questioned whether the filmmaker genuinely believed she could take on the role. According to the actress, Singh encouraged her to accept the character.

Anjali said she took some time to consider the opportunity before deciding to take it up. She explained that she wanted to approach the character sincerely and understand the qualities associated with Mata Sita, including patience and sacrifice.

The actress also said that the audience would ultimately decide whether her portrayal connects with them. She noted that an actor’s responsibility is to give their best to the character, while the audience determines how the performance is received.

Shri Ramayan Katha is directed by Abhishek Singh and features Dev Sharma as Shri Ram, Anjali Arora as Mata Sita and Rajniesh Duggall as Ravan. Sheel Verma and Nirbhay Wadhwa are also part of the cast, playing Lakshman and Hanuman respectively. The film is scheduled to release in cinemas across India on September 25, 2026.

The performance is particularly notable given the film’s reported production budget of only around $0.24 million. Despite opening with a modest first-day collection of roughly $0.012 million, Hanuman Ansh built momentum over the following weeks.

The film continued to maintain its theatrical momentum during its sixth weekend. It recorded approximately $1.26 million on Friday, $2.22 million on Saturday and $2.70 million on Sunday. Monday added another $0.99 million to its domestic net total.

Monday’s theater occupancy stood at 26.04%. Morning shows recorded 16.85% occupancy, followed by 27.54% in the afternoon, 30.54% in the evening and 29.23% at night.

With its worldwide total at approximately $33.6 million, Hanuman Ansh now needs about $2.4 million more to cross the $36 million worldwide milestone.

Taapsee Pannu takes center stage in Gandhari, an ambitious thriller that combines child abduction, human trafficking, revenge and mythology. While the Netflix film has several ingredients needed for an engaging suspense drama, its crowded screenplay and uneven storytelling prevent it from becoming as emotionally powerful as its premise suggests.

Directed by Devashish Makhija and written and produced by Kanika Dhillon, Gandhari follows Bani, played by Pannu, whose five-year-old daughter, Mishty, is abducted from the fictional West Bengal town of Joypurra. As Bani and her husband Gokul, portrayed by Ishwak Singh, search desperately for their child, they become connected to a much larger trafficking operation.

The story takes another dramatic turn when an attack leaves Bani temporarily blind. Despite her physical vulnerability, she continues her search and embarks on a dangerous mission to rescue her daughter. The film also draws inspiration from the Mahabharata through its title, connecting Bani’s temporary blindness with the story of Gandhari.

However, the mythology does not always blend naturally with the thriller’s central storyline. Instead of strengthening the narrative, the film’s multiple themes occasionally compete for attention.

Gandhari attempts to balance a serious social thriller with a larger-than-life revenge drama. At times, its disturbing subject matter feels grounded and effective, while other moments lean heavily toward familiar action and confrontation sequences. This creates an inconsistent tone, leaving the movie caught somewhere between an experimental streaming thriller and a conventional commercial action film.

Joypurra is among the film’s more interesting ideas. Its mysterious atmosphere, underground passages and hidden identities create a visually distinctive setting. Yet the world-building never fully develops into an essential part of the story.

Pannu remains one of the movie’s strongest assets. She brings physical commitment and determination to the demanding role, particularly during the action scenes. Swastika Mukherjee also delivers a memorable performance, bringing an unsettling sense of mystery to the story. Mita Vashisht and Chhaya Kadam make an impact despite limited screen time.

Ishwak Singh and Jatin Sarna, however, are not given enough material to fully develop their characters, while Prashant Narayanan’s villain does not become as intimidating as the role requires.

Ultimately, Gandhari has an intriguing foundation and some effective twists, but it tries to handle too many ideas at once. The film’s greatest missed opportunity is its limited emotional connection to a mother’s desperate search for her kidnapped child.

For viewers who enjoy female-led action thrillers, Gandhari may still be worth watching. Those expecting a tightly constructed and deeply emotional mystery, however, may find its many twists and dramatic elements overwhelming.

With its theatrical run now behind it, Dhamaal 4 is shifting its focus to the digital audience. Netflix subscribers will soon be able to watch the multi-star comedy without heading to a theater.

Manoj Bajpayee is set to headline a new Hindi drama as Last Man in Tower prepares to arrive in Indian theaters on September 11. Singer Sonu Nigam has recalled how his early career recording advertising jingles helped him become familiar with several Indian languages and shaped his multilingual singing journey.

Before moving to Mumbai, Sonu Nigam was based in Delhi, where he worked extensively as a jingle singer. He recalled recording as many as 16 to 17 jingles a day, often in different voices and languages.

The experience gave him an opportunity to become familiar with India’s diverse linguistic landscape at a very young age. His early work exposed him to languages including Kashmiri, Haryanavi, Rajasthani, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Manipuri and Assamese.

Over the course of his long career, Sonu Nigam has gone on to sing in numerous Indian languages, including Odia, Bengali, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, Marathi, Khasi, Konkani, Garhwali, Kumaoni and Dogri.

He recently reconnected with his roots through the Haryanavi romantic song “Chunni”, featuring his vocals alongside Tanuka Punera. The song was written and composed by Armin Bhaydi, while the music video featured Charmee Zaveri.

Haryana holds a special place in Sonu Nigam’s life because of his family connection to the region. He has previously spoken about spending part of his childhood there, while his father and sister also grew up in Haryana.

With a career spanning several decades, Sonu Nigam has lent his voice to more than 6,000 songs across over 32 languages. His extensive body of work covers a wide range of Indian languages and has also included international languages and performances.

His early experience with jingles, he noted, played an important role in helping him develop the linguistic versatility that has become a distinctive part of his musical career.
