Indian-American golfer Akshay Bhatia is back at East Lake Golf Club for the 2026 TOUR Championship, giving the 24-year-old another chance to compete against the PGA TOUR’s strongest performers at the season-ending event. The tournament runs from August 27 through August 30 in Atlanta, with a $40 million purse and $10 million going to the champion.
Bhatia secured his place in the elite 30-player field with a tied-12th finish at the BMW Championship. He carded four rounds of 67, 68, 70 and 68 to finish seven under par, keeping himself inside the FedExCup qualification cutoff. He enters the finale ranked No. 15 in the FedExCup standings.
The appearance gives Bhatia an opportunity to build on his previous experience at East Lake. He finished tied for 13th at the 2025 TOUR Championship after shooting 10 under par, while he placed 26th in his earlier appearance in 2024. That familiarity with the demanding venue could prove useful as he looks to improve on his previous results.
Bhatia has established himself as one of the PGA TOUR’s promising young players, with three career victories. His strong approach play and reliable putting have helped him compete effectively against high-quality fields. The PGA TOUR ranks his approach performance 35th and putting 11th on TOUR this season, giving him two important strengths heading into the finale.
While Bhatia will attract attention as the lone player of Indian origin in the 30-man field, much of the spotlight will fall on the leading FedExCup contenders. Scottie Scheffler enters the tournament at No. 1, followed by Matt Fitzpatrick and Wyndham Clark. Rory McIlroy, ranked No. 11, is also among the leading names seeking another championship at East Lake.
Clark arrives with considerable momentum after winning the BMW Championship and moving to third in the FedExCup standings. His victory added another major boost to an already impressive 2026 campaign. McIlroy, meanwhile, enters the finale after finishing runner-up to Clark at the BMW Championship.
For Bhatia, the challenge will be turning his recent consistency into a standout performance on the biggest stage. With his experience at East Lake and a strong finish at the BMW Championship behind him, he has another opportunity to close his 2026 campaign among the PGA TOUR’s elite.
