Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday welcomed the launch of the Google AI Hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, describing it as a transformative initiative in democratizing technology. Modi highlighted the multi-faceted investment, which includes gigawatt-scale data centre infrastructure, as being fully aligned with the government’s vision of building a Viksit Bharat. He emphasized that the AI hub would provide cutting-edge tools to citizens, advance India’s digital economy, and bolster the country’s position as a global technology leader.
In response to Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s announcement, Modi expressed enthusiasm for the hub’s potential impact. Pichai shared that the Visakhapatnam AI Hub will integrate gigawatt-scale compute capacity, a new international subsea gateway, and large-scale energy infrastructure. The hub represents a significant collaboration between Google and the Adani Group, with a planned investment of USD 15 billion over the next five years.
The Prime Minister noted that the Google AI Hub will be a major driver in making AI accessible to all, emphasizing the “AI for All” initiative. By equipping developers, startups, students, and businesses with state-of-the-art AI tools, the hub will empower India’s growing technology ecosystem. The center is expected to foster innovation across multiple sectors, including healthcare, education, agriculture, and finance, thereby driving inclusive growth and skill development.
Modi also underscored the hub’s strategic significance, stating that it strengthens India’s position in the global technology landscape while creating opportunities for collaboration, research, and development. The combination of advanced computing capacity, energy infrastructure, and global connectivity positions the Visakhapatnam hub as a pioneering model for AI-driven innovation.
