External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar extended his greetings to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and the people of China on the occasion of the country’s founding day, marking the 76th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. In his message posted on X, Jaishankar expressed hope for continued collaboration to stabilize and rebuild the ties between India and China. The founding day commemorates the proclamation of the People’s Republic of China by Mao Zedong on October 1, 1949.
Earlier this year in August, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited India for a two-day official engagement. During the visit, he met with EAM Jaishankar to discuss bilateral relations and the ongoing border issues. The Chinese diplomat also participated in a fresh round of Special Representatives dialogue on the boundary question with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During his discussions with Wang Yi, Jaishankar stressed the importance of progressing with the de-escalation process along the border. He highlighted that maintaining peace and tranquillity in the border regions forms the foundation for any positive momentum in India-China relations. “You, Excellency, will of course be discussing border issues with our Special Representative, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, tomorrow. This is very important because the basis for any positive momentum in our ties is the ability to jointly maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas. It is also essential that the de-escalation process move forward,” Jaishankar noted during his opening remarks.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and other senior officials, reflecting the high-level diplomatic engagement between the two nations. Jaishankar’s message on China’s founding day signals India’s commitment to stabilizing bilateral relations while continuing dialogue on sensitive issues, including the border. The gesture also underscores India’s emphasis on constructive diplomacy, regional peace, and the gradual rebuilding of trust with China, amid ongoing efforts to resolve longstanding border and strategic concerns.
