Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a strong message on Monday, firmly stating that India will not hold any dialogue or trade negotiations with Pakistan until the latter dismantles its terror infrastructure. Addressing the nation, PM Modi emphasized that “terror and talks” and “terror and trade” cannot go hand in hand.
He declared Operation Sindoor as India’s new framework in its fight against terrorism, following earlier counterattacks like the 2016 surgical strike and the 2019 air strike. The recent offensive was launched in retaliation to the terror attack in Pahalgam, and Modi said it marked a significant evolution in India’s security doctrine.
In a sharp rebuke to Pakistan, the Prime Minister mentioned India’s decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty in response to the Pahalgam incident, declaring that “water and blood cannot flow together.” He added that if any engagement with Pakistan takes place, it will solely focus on terrorism and the status of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), which he reiterated is under illegal occupation.
Highlighting the principles of Operation Sindoor, Modi outlined three key points. First, India will respond decisively and on its own terms to any terrorist activity. Second, the country will not yield to nuclear threats, and will carry out precise strikes even under such blackmail. Third, India will treat state sponsors of terrorism and individual masterminds as equally culpable.
Modi criticized Pakistan’s military establishment for publicly honoring the terrorists killed in Operation Sindoor, calling it proof of state-sponsored terror. He asserted that India would continue to take all necessary steps to safeguard its citizens.
He also emphasized India’s track record of defeating Pakistan on the battlefield and said that this latest operation demonstrated India’s strength in modern warfare. According to Modi, the success of Made in India weapons used during Operation Sindoor proved their reliability in 21st-century combat scenarios.
Reiterating India’s commitment to unity and zero tolerance towards terrorism, Modi said the current global era should be free of both war and terror. He warned Pakistan that continued support for terrorism would ultimately lead to its own destruction.
The Prime Minister concluded by saluting the bravery and sacrifice of India’s armed forces, intelligence personnel, and scientists. He praised their success in Operation Sindoor and stated that their valor is a tribute to every Indian mother, sister, and daughter.
The statement came just days after Pakistan’s military escalation was met with a strong Indian response. Following backchannel discussions between the DGMOs of both countries, a temporary halt to hostilities has been agreed upon.
