Prime Minister Narendra Modi, following a meeting with visiting United States Vice President J.D. Vance on Monday, emphasized that the strategic relationship between India and the US will play a pivotal role in shaping the 21st century.
Sharing his thoughts on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi posted, “Pleased to welcome US VP JD Vance and his family in New Delhi. We reviewed the fast-paced progress following my visit to the US and meeting with President Trump. We are committed to mutually beneficial cooperation, including in trade, technology, defence, energy and people-to-people exchanges.”
He further added, “India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership will be a defining partnership of the 21st Century for a better future of our people and the world.”
Earlier in the day, PM Modi and Vice President Vance acknowledged the advancements made in the India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement and expressed appreciation for ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation across sectors such as defence, energy, and strategic technologies.
The Prime Minister welcomed the US Vice President, along with Second Lady Usha Vance and their children — Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel — at his official residence on Lok Kalyan Marg in New Delhi.
During the meeting, PM Modi reminisced about his successful visit to Washington, D.C., in January and the fruitful discussions held with US President Donald Trump. The leaders had also previously met in February on the sidelines of the AI Summit in Paris, where they engaged in dialogue aimed at deepening the strategic bond between the two countries.
Their latest meeting served as a follow-up to those earlier discussions. PM Modi and Vice President Vance reviewed progress in the bilateral relationship and exchanged perspectives on a range of regional and global issues of mutual concern.
Prime Minister Modi also extended his regards to President Trump, expressing anticipation for his scheduled visit to India later this year.
This visit marks Vice President Vance’s first to India. Besides his engagement with PM Modi, he and his delegation are scheduled for visits to Jaipur and Agra before concluding the trip and returning to Washington on April 24.
The Prime Minister offered his best wishes to Vice President Vance and his family for an enjoyable stay in India. As part of their visit, the Prime Minister will host the Second Family for a formal dinner following the talks.
Highlighting their appreciation for Indian traditions, the Vance children once again dressed in traditional Indian attire for their visit to the Prime Minister’s residence.
Earlier in the day, the US Vice President and his family visited the Swaminarayan Akshardham temple in Delhi — their first stop in the country. During the visit, they explored the temple’s magnificent architecture and artistry while engaging with its enduring messages of spirituality, family, and cultural harmony.
Vice President Vance’s visit is particularly notable, as it marks the first time in 13 years that an American Vice President has traveled to India. The last visit was made by Joe Biden in 2013 when he served as Vice President under President Barack Obama.
