Indian-origin Gurmeet Singh Sidhu has won the Movember UK and Europe Award 2025 in the “Going the Distance” category for walking an astonishing 508 kilometers throughout Movember. The charity event, which runs annually in November, raises awareness for men’s health issues, including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health.
Sidhu, a physics teacher at Gravesend Grammar School, has been a significant source of inspiration for his students. Despite being told by doctors that he might not be able to walk without impairment, he took on the challenge of walking daily to avoid back surgery. His perseverance and dedication saw him walk an average of 17 kilometers per day, after school and on weekends, ultimately covering 508 kilometers in a month.
Hailing from Bathinda and an alumnus of PPS, Nabha, Sidhu—also known as “Walking Singh”—is passionate about encouraging young people to stay physically and mentally fit. An avid marathon and ultra-marathon participant, he hopes his story will inspire others to overcome their struggles.
“The Movember panel evaluates all participants before selecting winners in March. There are 10 different categories, and I won in ‘Going the Distance.’ This journey was personal—I walked to prove that I could beat my condition, and in the end, I did,” said Sidhu.
Movember is widely recognized in the UK for its strong advocacy for men’s health issues, with both men and women participating in various fundraising activities. Sidhu’s remarkable journey of resilience has not only earned him recognition but also motivated many to prioritize their well-being.
