Nokia is gearing up to create the world’s largest fixed network testbed in Chennai, a major leap forward in the realm of ultra-high-speed internet technology. This project, which entails an investment of approximately US$ 54.07 million (Rs. 450 crore), will concentrate on pioneering advancements in 10G, 25G, 50G, and 100G passive optical networks. The new facility will be situated at the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu in Siruseri and is poised to become a key research and development hub for Nokia. The formal agreement for this initiative will be signed in San Francisco, with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr. M K Stalin in attendance, as part of his efforts to attract investments during his US visit. This development underscores Tamil Nadu’s rising status as a center for R&D and technological services, with Nokia’s involvement reflecting a strong, enduring partnership in the state’s growth trajectory.
The establishment of this facility by the Finnish tech giant is expected to significantly propel the development of next-generation networks while creating around 100 specialised jobs. The Tamil Nadu government will supply Nokia with essential infrastructure, regulatory, and policy support according to existing guidelines. This collaboration strengthens Chennai’s strategic role in Nokia’s global operations and underscores the region’s increasing importance as a hub for technological innovation, according to a government source.
