The recent ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup made history as the most attended ICC event to date. Over the span of six weeks in India, a remarkable 1,250,307 fans attended the tournament, surpassing the previous record set during the 2015 event in Australia and New Zealand, which saw 1,016,420 spectators.
The anticipation for a new attendance record grew evident when the one millionth patron marked their presence during the group stage match between South Africa and Afghanistan in Ahmedabad. The record was easily surpassed, with the thrilling final between India and Australia at Narendra Modi Stadium attracting over 90,000 fans.
In the title decider, Australia secured a compelling six-wicket victory over India, claiming their sixth World Cup title. Player of the Match honors went to opener Travis Head, contributing to Australia’s stylish triumph led by Pat Cummins.
While the 2015 event remains the second most attended Cricket World Cup in history, the 2019 edition in England and Wales attracted 752,000 fans, further highlighting the unprecedented success of the 2023 World Cup in terms of attendance.
Notably, the event achieved more than just a record-breaking attendance. The 2023 World Cup also set new benchmarks in broadcast and digital viewership, adding to its list of accomplishments.
