During the 118th Annual Session of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Mr. Amit Shah, highlighted India’s aspirations for the future. He mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set the goal for India to become the top-ranked country in all sectors by the time the nation celebrates its 100 years of independence in 2047. He referred to this period as the “Amrit Kaal” or the era of unprecedented growth. The theme of this year’s event is “Emerging India: This Is the Right Time, the Golden Era of Remarkable Progress.”
Mr. Amit Shah also pointed out India’s significant achievements, such as having a large number of doctors, engineers, and technocrats. He noted that India has climbed from the 11th to the 5th rank in the list of the world’s largest economies since 2014.
The Union Minister highlighted the remarkable growth in digital transactions, stating that while there were only 1.27 billion digital transactions in 2014, the number has now risen to 12.735 billion. He also noted the substantial increase in unicorn start-ups, from just four in 2014 to 115 today.
India has become an attractive destination for business, with a substantial increase in capital expenditure from INR 3.9 trillion (USD 47 billion) in 2014 to INR 10 trillion (USD 120 billion) today. The country has witnessed significant infrastructure development, including the expansion of airports from 70 to 138 and the addition of approximately 50,000 kilometers of highways in nine years.
Furthermore, Mr. Amit Shah mentioned the government’s efforts to connect all eight capitals of the northeastern states by air, railways, and road by 2027. He also emphasized that the New Education Policy, over the next decade, aims to establish India as a preferred education hub.
