Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has held a series of meetings with senior executives from major global companies during his visit to the United States, with discussions centered on expanding investment in India and strengthening business partnerships across technology, insurance and financial services.
Goyal met IBM Chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna to discuss the company’s long-standing operations in India and opportunities to expand collaboration in emerging technologies. The conversation covered areas including artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure and quantum computing.
The minister highlighted India’s large pool of skilled talent and rapid adoption of digital technologies as key advantages for companies seeking to develop and scale new solutions. The discussions reflected efforts to deepen cooperation in frontier technologies while building on IBM’s existing presence in the Indian market.
Insurance and financial services were another major focus of Goyal’s meetings. He held discussions with Mark Tucker, non-executive chairman of AIA Group, about the company’s activities in India and potential avenues for additional investment.
Goyal pointed to regulatory changes and increasing demand for insurance as factors that could create opportunities for international insurers. He also linked the discussions to India’s goal of expanding insurance coverage under its “Insurance for All by 2047” vision.
The minister separately met William E. Ford, chairman and CEO of investment firm General Atlantic. Their discussions focused on opportunities for the company to increase its business and investment engagement with India, particularly by taking advantage of the country’s expanding economy.
Goyal also met Michel A. Khalaf, president and CEO of MetLife, to discuss the company’s opportunities in India. The conversation included India’s expanding insurance and financial services markets, growing demand for long-term savings and protection products, and the country’s technology talent.
The minister said India sees scope for stronger cooperation with MetLife and expressed support for the company’s continued growth in the country.
Taken together, the meetings demonstrated India’s efforts to attract greater participation from multinational companies and international investors. The government is seeking to build stronger commercial links with global businesses while positioning India as a destination for investment across technology, financial services and other high-growth sectors.
Goyal’s US engagements were part of his broader visit to the country, where he also participated in the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting. His meetings with executives from major global companies provided an opportunity to discuss investment prospects and identify areas where international businesses can expand their presence in India.
