Ride-hailing giant Uber has announced a strategic investment in India’s Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), becoming one of the earliest global technology firms to financially support the country’s expanding open digital commerce ecosystem. The move marks a significant step in Uber’s long-term plan to deepen its presence in India’s mobility and logistics space through collaborative digital infrastructure.
The U.S.-based company stated that this investment builds on its existing integration with ONDC and reflects its broader strategy of leveraging open networks to scale transportation and delivery services. Uber emphasized that the partnership will help accelerate innovation in mobility solutions while improving accessibility for users and service providers across India.
As part of the expanded collaboration, Uber will work closely with ONDC to enhance multimodal transport options, including improved integration with public transportation systems. The company also plans to strengthen logistics capabilities, aiming to support businesses, delivery partners, and independent earners operating within the network.
Prabhjeet Singh, President of Uber India and South Asia, said the investment places the company at the center of India’s evolving digital mobility ecosystem. He noted that the collaboration will enable greater movement of people, support business growth, and create more earning opportunities by tapping into ONDC’s open framework.
From ONDC’s perspective, Independent Director Adil Zainulbhai described Uber’s participation as a strong vote of confidence in India’s digital public infrastructure. He highlighted that the investment reflects the growing belief in ONDC’s ability to create fair competition, encourage innovation, and promote inclusive economic growth across sectors.
Uber also reported growing traction for its services on the network, stating that metro ticketing features are currently active in five Indian cities. The company added that more than 10 million metro rides have already been facilitated through ONDC-linked services, signaling increasing adoption of digital transit solutions in urban areas.
The development underscores the rapid expansion of India’s digital commerce ecosystem and highlights the increasing role of global technology companies in supporting open, interoperable platforms aimed at improving efficiency, connectivity, and access across the transportation and logistics landscape.
