Air India has introduced its newest Maharaja Lounge at San Francisco International Airport, marking another major step in the airline’s ongoing modernization efforts. The premium facility, located near Gate A1 in the International Terminal, officially welcomed guests starting May 23.
Spread across nearly 3,300 square feet, the lounge can accommodate up to 80 travelers. Access has been reserved for Air India’s First and Business Class passengers, along with Platinum and Gold-tier members of the Maharaja Club loyalty program. A dedicated private section has also been created specifically for First Class guests seeking a quieter and more exclusive pre-flight environment.
Air India Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Campbell Wilson described the launch as part of the airline’s broader vision to redefine customer experience across its international network. He noted that North America continues to be a strategically important market for the airline, adding that Air India aims to combine modern comfort with the warmth of Indian hospitality.
The San Francisco lounge represents the second signature Maharaja Lounge developed under Air India’s new branding strategy. Its design concept follows the recently launched flagship lounge in Delhi and reflects the carrier’s effort to build a consistent premium identity globally.
Created by renowned hospitality design company Hirsch Bedner Associates, the space blends contemporary aesthetics with Indian-inspired elements. The interiors feature shades of champagne, ivory, and deep red, colors closely associated with Air India’s branding. Distinctive “Vista” motifs have been integrated into the walls, furniture, and decorative features throughout the lounge.
Passengers can enjoy several dedicated spaces within the facility, including the Aviator’s Bar, dining areas, social seating sections, and an exclusive First Class zone. The Aviator’s Bar offers a range of premium beverages, including wines, whiskies, and signature cocktails. One highlighted drink, named the “Maharaja Manhattan,” features flavors inspired by black pepper.
The dining experience includes Indian and international cuisine served through live cooking counters, buffet stations, and beverage areas. Many seating sections also provide direct views of the airport runway and aircraft activity.
Air India stated that the lounge additionally showcases artwork inspired by regional culture, alongside decorative installations created from repurposed aircraft materials.
Since returning to Tata Group ownership in 2022, Air India has been implementing a large-scale transformation program involving fleet expansion, aircraft upgrades, and improvements in airport and onboard services. The Air India Group currently operates more than 300 aircraft across domestic and international routes spanning five continents.
