India’s construction equipment industry delivered a record performance in the financial year 2025–26, supported by strong domestic infrastructure expansion and increasing international demand for Indian-made machinery. According to the Ministry of Heavy Industries, total sales reached 140,191 units during the year, reflecting a steady growth of around 3 percent compared to the previous year.
The most significant highlight of the sector’s performance came from exports, which surged by 31.5 percent year-on-year to 16,885 units. This sharp rise indicates that Indian manufacturers are becoming more competitive in global markets, with their products gaining wider acceptance across multiple regions.
The industry’s expansion has been largely driven by sustained investments in infrastructure development within India. Major projects in highways, railways, mining, energy, and urban infrastructure have created strong domestic demand for construction equipment. In addition, increasing mechanisation in the construction sector has further boosted sales of advanced machinery.
Government-led initiatives have also played a crucial role in supporting the industry’s growth. Programs such as the Production Linked Incentive scheme, the National Infrastructure Pipeline, and PM Gati Shakti have helped strengthen manufacturing capacity, encourage localisation of components, and promote the adoption of modern technologies. These policies have enabled domestic companies to scale up production while improving efficiency and quality standards.
At the same time, demand for fuel-efficient and technologically advanced equipment has been rising across key sectors such as mining, real estate development, highways, and large-scale urban projects. Manufacturers have responded by expanding product lines and focusing on innovation to meet evolving industry requirements.
On the global front, Indian construction equipment is witnessing growing acceptance in regions such as Africa, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America. Increasing exports to these markets are strengthening India’s position in the international supply chain for heavy machinery and construction equipment.
Industry observers believe this growth trend reflects a broader transformation in India’s industrial landscape. With rising infrastructure spending, improved manufacturing capabilities, and stronger global integration, India is steadily positioning itself as a major hub for heavy engineering and construction equipment production.
