The foundation stone has been laid for the Google Cloud India AI Hub in Visakhapatnam, marking a significant milestone in India’s push toward advanced digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence development. The ceremony was led by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, highlighting the state’s ambition to become a major global technology destination.
The project is being developed through a collaboration between Google, AdaniConneX, and Airtel Nxtra, with a total investment of approximately $15 billion, equivalent to around Rs. 1.41 lakh crore. This positions the initiative among the largest foreign direct investments in India’s technology sector. The upcoming AI data center will be built across nearly 600 acres in Tharluwada, Adavivaram, and Rambilli, with a planned capacity of 1 gigawatt.
The development is part of Andhra Pradesh’s broader strategy to accelerate infrastructure growth through its “speed of doing business” approach, aimed at attracting large-scale global investments. The AI hub is expected to significantly strengthen India’s digital backbone by enabling high-performance computing, advanced cloud services, and large-scale data storage capabilities.
A major feature of the project is its integration with upcoming subsea cable networks, which will connect Visakhapatnam directly to global regions including the United States, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Australia. This connectivity is expected to enhance India’s position in global digital trade and improve the country’s integration into international data networks.
The AI hub is also projected to create extensive employment opportunities across multiple high-skill sectors, including artificial intelligence development, cloud operations, cybersecurity, and data science. In addition, it is likely to stimulate growth in related industries such as power infrastructure, advanced cooling systems, and server manufacturing, further strengthening the regional economy.
Beyond immediate infrastructure gains, the Andhra Pradesh government has outlined an ambitious long-term vision to develop a multi-gigawatt digital ecosystem, with a target capacity of 6.5 gigawatts. This positions the state as a future global hub for next-generation technologies and digital services.
