Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has emphasized that India’s defence sector is undergoing a major transformation under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, creating new opportunities for deeper collaboration with Germany’s industrial ecosystem. He highlighted that stronger ties between the two nations could lead to meaningful mutual benefits, particularly in defence manufacturing and advanced technologies.
Speaking to Germany’s Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence and Security, Singh made a strong case for expanding cooperation between the defence industries of both countries. He clarified that the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative is not limited to procurement but is designed to encourage joint creation, co-development, and innovation between global partners.
He pointed out that the current global environment is becoming increasingly complex due to emerging security threats and rapid technological advancements. According to him, nations must adopt flexible strategies and adapt quickly to these evolving challenges in order to maintain stability and security.
Acknowledging Germany’s strengths, Singh praised its well-established industrial base as well as the efficiency and innovation of its small and medium-sized enterprises. He noted that these capabilities align well with India’s rapidly growing startup ecosystem and private sector, which are actively strengthening the country’s defence capabilities alongside established public sector enterprises. This natural synergy, he said, provides a strong foundation for expanding bilateral cooperation.
The Defence Minister also stressed the importance of coordinated global responses and reliable strategic partnerships to tackle modern security challenges. He highlighted that both India and Germany share a common vision for strengthening their partnership, supported by leadership on both sides. He further noted increasing alignment at the European Union level, particularly through initiatives aimed at enhancing defence and strategic engagement with India.
Singh described India and Germany as influential voices in shaping global discussions, rooted in shared democratic values and driven by resilient and innovation-led economies. He expressed confidence that the partnership between the two countries would continue to grow as a model of steady and purposeful cooperation between mature democracies.
During his visit, Singh received a ceremonial welcome in Berlin, including military honors. His journey from Munich to Berlin was marked by a special gesture, as his aircraft was escorted by fighter jets, symbolizing the importance of the visit and the strengthening ties between the two nations.
