Shivraj Singh Chouhan convened a high-level review meeting to ensure adequate fertiliser supply and curb black marketing amid global uncertainties triggered by the West Asia conflict.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, the meeting focused on strengthening preparedness for the upcoming Kharif season while ensuring equitable and uninterrupted distribution of fertilisers across the country.
The minister emphasised the need for transparency in the distribution system and directed officials to expedite the implementation of Farmer IDs. This move is expected to streamline fertiliser allocation and reduce irregularities.
Chouhan also issued strict instructions to take firm action against black marketing and hoarding of fertilisers and seeds. State governments will be encouraged to adopt stringent enforcement measures to prevent profiteering during the ongoing global crisis.
The review also covered the availability of agro-chemicals and essential gases required for seed drying. The minister stressed the importance of maintaining sufficient packaging materials, particularly for milk and other agricultural products, to avoid disruptions in supply chains.
To ensure continuous monitoring, a dedicated “Special Cell” has been established to oversee the agricultural sector. The cell will provide weekly reports on the availability of fertilisers, seeds, and pesticides to the Union Agriculture Minister.
Chouhan further directed officials to coordinate closely with the Ministry of Petroleum and other departments to ensure uninterrupted supply of critical inputs.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the minister urged officials to remain proactive and responsive during the crisis to guarantee timely delivery of essential agricultural resources to farmers.
He also highlighted that agricultural production in India has increased significantly over the past decade, supported by government initiatives aimed at improving productivity and boosting farmers’ income.
