India formally launched the logo, theme, and official website for its BRICS 2026 chairship during an event in New Delhi, marking the country’s fourth time leading the influential economic grouping. The launch was led by External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and signaled the start of India’s preparations to steer BRICS at a time of global uncertainty and shifting geopolitical dynamics.
India assumed the BRICS presidency on January 1, taking over from Brazil. The upcoming chairship holds added significance as BRICS approaches two decades since its formation. Over the years, the bloc has emerged as a key platform for emerging markets and developing economies seeking stronger cooperation and a more balanced global order.
The theme chosen for BRICS 2026 is “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” It reflects India’s emphasis on a humanity-first and people-centric vision, drawing inspiration from the Prime Minister’s broader approach to global engagement. The theme aims to address contemporary global challenges by promoting inclusive growth, innovation-driven development, and long-term sustainability.
A dedicated website, brics2026.gov.in, was also unveiled as part of the launch. The platform is designed to act as a central digital hub for India’s BRICS presidency, offering updates, official documents, event information, and key announcements related to meetings and initiatives planned during the year.
The BRICS 2026 logo, titled “The Lotus,” carries strong symbolic meaning. It represents inclusivity, dialogue, and shared progress. The lotus petals reflect the diverse colors of BRICS member nations, highlighting unity in diversity and collective strength. At the center of the design, the “Namaste” gesture conveys mutual respect, cooperation, and harmony among member countries.
India has outlined four broad priorities for its chairship: resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability. These priorities are intended to guide discussions and initiatives across BRICS’ three core pillars—political and security cooperation, economic and financial collaboration, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges. Together, they form a balanced framework for advancing shared goals.
During the launch, Dr. Jaishankar described India’s chairship as a critical moment for BRICS. He noted that the grouping has grown into an important voice for emerging economies, particularly in responding to global inequalities and opposing discriminatory practices. India’s presidency, he emphasized, aims to strengthen BRICS as a platform that supports multipolarity, cooperation, and inclusive global development.
With the unveiling of its identity and agenda, India has set the tone for a proactive and forward-looking BRICS 2026, positioning itself to play a leading role in shaping the bloc’s future direction.
