The Honourable Arif Virani, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, has announced the appointment of Vasundhara Naik as a Judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario, Family Court, in Ottawa. Her appointment reflects the highest standards of judicial excellence and integrity.
Justice Naik, previously a founding partner at Robins Naik LLP in Ottawa, replaces Justice D.L. Summers, who resigned on December 16, 2024.
Raised in India, Justice Naik completed her B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) at the National Law School of India University. Justice Naik’s legal career began in New Delhi, where she worked in human rights and criminal defense before specializing in intellectual property law. She later served as in-house counsel for Cisco Systems in India and worked as a Brand Protection Manager in Singapore. After moving to Canada, she focused on family law, child protection, and adoption, providing legal aid services and representing children’s interests.
Beyond her legal practice, Justice Naik has been actively involved in advocacy and education. She has taught Trial and Family Advocacy at the University of Ottawa, served on legal service boards, and volunteered on court subcommittees. She has also supported Indigenous organizations, women’s shelters, and grassroots initiatives by offering pro bono legal services to marginalized individuals, including those facing language barriers.
Minister Virani congratulated Justice Naik and six other newly appointed judges, expressing confidence in their ability to serve Ontarians effectively.
Justice Naik resides in Ottawa with her partner, Shiv.
