The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation has unveiled its annual selection of Sloan Research Fellows for 2024, featuring 10 early-career Indian American researchers. Chosen from a wide array of prestigious institutions across the US and Canada, these individuals represent the epitome of scientific excellence. Each fellow receives a $75,000 grant over two years to support their research efforts, continuing a tradition that has been in place since 1955.
Among the distinguished Indian American recipients are Priyanka Raina from Stanford University and Arvind Satyanarayan from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the field of Computer Science, alongside Dipti Nayak from the University of California, Berkeley, specializing in Earth System Science, among others.
Priyanka Raina, currently serving as an assistant professor at Stanford University, earned her academic degrees from IIT Delhi and MIT. Arvind Satyanarayan, an assistant professor at MIT, leads the visualization group at the MIT CSAIL. Dipti Nayak, currently in the role of assistant professor at UC Berkeley, previously fulfilled a postdoctoral position as a Carl R. Woese Fellow at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
The remaining Indian American fellows include Aaditya Ramdas from Carnegie Mellon University, Ananth Shankar from Northwestern University in Mathematics, Vineet Augustine from the University of California, San Diego, specializing in Neurobiology, Vijay Mohan K. Namboodiri from the University of California, San Francisco, Preeya Khanna from the University of California, Berkeley, and Karan K. Mehta from Cornell University in Physics.
These exceptional researchers represent a diverse array of fields, showcasing outstanding achievements and innovative contributions in their respective areas of expertise. Moreover, Vikram Ravi, of Indian heritage and Australian nationality, is an assistant professor of astronomy at the California Institute of Technology. He was also honored as a Sloan Research Fellow for 2024.
