Tata Motors and Amazon have partnered to deploy 3,000 electric trucks across Amazon’s transportation network in India over the next three years, marking a step towards the electrification of e-commerce logistics and freight transportation.
The initial fleet was flagged off in New Delhi by Union Minister of Heavy Industries H. D. Kumaraswamy. The initiative aims to expand the use of electric commercial vehicles as freight movement increases alongside the growth of India’s economy and e-commerce sector.
The partnership brings together Tata Motors, one of India’s major automobile manufacturers, and Amazon, a global e-commerce company, to integrate electric trucks into transportation operations across the country. The phased deployment is expected to strengthen the adoption of electric mobility beyond passenger vehicles and two-wheelers.
Commercial vehicles play a significant role in moving goods between warehouses, distribution centres and delivery hubs. Introducing electric trucks into these operations could help reduce dependence on conventional fuels and support efforts to improve energy efficiency in the logistics sector.
The initiative also highlights the growing importance of sustainable freight transportation as online shopping and supply-chain activities expand. By incorporating electric trucks into its network, Amazon is seeking to advance vehicle electrification across its logistics operations in India.
The collaboration reflects a broader shift towards cleaner commercial transportation, with electric vehicles increasingly being considered for applications beyond personal mobility. The planned deployment over three years will extend the use of electric trucks across Amazon’s transportation network and contribute to the development of India’s commercial electric vehicle ecosystem.
As demand for freight services continues to grow, partnerships between vehicle manufacturers and logistics companies are expected to play an important role in expanding electric mobility and supporting the transition towards more sustainable supply chains.
