California Governor Gavin Newsom has appointed Shweta Maurya of Campbell as senior product manager at the state’s Office of Data and Innovation, adding an experienced technology and business professional to an agency focused on modernizing government services.
Maurya’s appointment comes as California continues to emphasize technology, innovation and data-informed decision-making across its government operations. In her new position, she will work on digital products and initiatives designed to make public services more effective and accessible while helping government teams develop solutions around the needs of residents.
The Office of Data and Innovation plays a key role in California’s efforts to bring modern technology and user-centered practices into government. Maurya’s background in strategy, operations and program management is expected to complement the office’s work on improving how state agencies design and deliver digital services.
Before joining state government, Maurya built a diverse professional career spanning technology, financial services, program management and engineering. She spent six years at Chime, where she held several positions between 2019 and 2025. Her roles included senior manager of strategy and operations and staff program manager within the company’s Program Management Office.
Earlier in her career, Maurya worked at Amazon as a program manager from 2017 to 2019. Her professional experience began in engineering, with a mechanical engineer position at Randall Lamb from 2013 to 2015. This combination of technical training and management experience has given her exposure to both engineering and large-scale organizational operations.
Maurya’s educational background includes a Master of Business Administration from George Washington University. She also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Colorado, providing a technical foundation that complements her later work in strategy and technology management.
The new position does not require confirmation by the California Senate. According to the state announcement, the role carries annual compensation of $154,860.
Maurya’s appointment also represents another example of professionals with backgrounds in technology and business moving into public-sector leadership as governments increasingly rely on digital tools and data to improve services.
With her experience across Chime, Amazon and engineering, Maurya will now bring her private-sector expertise to California’s efforts to build more efficient, accessible and technology-driven government services. She is affiliated with the Democratic Party.
