US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Tuesday as Washington and New Delhi continued a series of high-level discussions focused on strengthening their strategic partnership. Gor described the conversation as productive and highlighted the importance of closer cooperation between the two countries in addressing international security challenges.
Following the meeting, the US envoy said on X that the United States and India have several shared objectives and that their partnership remains important to tackling global security concerns. He also indicated that engagement between the two governments is continuing to expand across strategic areas.
The meeting came a day after Gor held talks with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in New Delhi. While the ambassador did not disclose details of either discussion, the back-to-back meetings underscore the sustained diplomatic engagement between senior officials from Washington and New Delhi.
The latest interactions also follow a recent conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US Vice President JD Vance. The two leaders spoke by phone on Saturday and discussed ways to advance the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
During the call, Modi and Vance also exchanged views on regional and international developments. Modi separately congratulated Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, on the birth of their son and conveyed his best wishes to the family.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the leaders acknowledged the continued pace of high-level engagement between the two countries. They reaffirmed their intention to expand cooperation in trade, defense, critical and emerging technologies, energy security and critical minerals.
Their conversation also covered regional and global issues of mutual concern, reflecting the increasingly broad scope of the India-US relationship. Beyond traditional defense cooperation, both countries are working to deepen ties in areas involving technology, energy and economic security.
The latest diplomatic activity follows discussions held in July between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in Manila on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ meetings. The two officials agreed to accelerate work on key defense agreements and pursue an interim bilateral trade agreement that Washington described as nearing completion.
Rubio and Jaishankar also reviewed developments in the Middle East and Indo-Pacific during their meeting. Their discussions added momentum to efforts aimed at strengthening the broader strategic partnership.
With senior officials from both countries maintaining frequent contact, Washington and New Delhi are signaling a continued commitment to expanding cooperation. Security remains a central pillar, while trade, defense, technology, energy and critical minerals are increasingly shaping the wider bilateral agenda.
