The saree will once again take center stage in New York City as Saree Goes Global USA returns to Times Square for its third consecutive year. Scheduled for August 23, 2026, the cultural celebration will bring together participants from across the United States and other parts of the world to showcase the beauty, versatility, and enduring significance of one of India’s most recognizable traditional garments.
The event will take place at Father Duffy Square in Times Square from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Organized by Uma Global in partnership with the Consulate General of India in New York, the program will combine fashion, music, dance, and community participation to present the saree as a symbol of Indian heritage with global appeal.
A central feature of the celebration will be the Saree Walkathon, which will allow participants to proudly display sarees representing different regions, styles, fabrics, and traditions. A Ramp Walk will add another visual highlight, while music and dance performances, including presentations by Dance X Studio, will bring additional energy to the gathering.
Saree Goes Global has continued to grow as a platform for cultural expression and community connection. By bringing the saree to one of the world’s most recognizable public spaces, the event highlights how traditional Indian clothing can transcend geographical and cultural boundaries.
The celebration also places emphasis on women’s empowerment. The saree is presented not simply as clothing but as an expression of identity, confidence, creativity, and heritage. The event offers women an opportunity to celebrate their cultural roots while participating in a modern, international setting.
Organizers have also recognized the important role of weavers and artisans whose skills have preserved India’s textile traditions across generations. Their craftsmanship remains central to the saree’s cultural identity and its growing international recognition.
The event’s organizers expressed appreciation to the US Host Committee members Garima Agrawal, Mitali Chattopadhyay, Rita Kakati-Shah, and Jayeeta Mukherjee, along with Dipti Jain, who founded the Saree Goes Global movement in the United Kingdom.
Uma Global also acknowledged Ambassador Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, Consul General of India in New York, and his team for their continued support, along with sponsors, volunteers, media partners, and community supporters.
