Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 6th International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), urging nations to prioritize the development of resilient infrastructure to counter the escalating frequency and severity of natural disasters. He emphasized that such investments are crucial for ensuring a safer future, noting the profound impact of disasters not only in terms of monetary losses but also on individuals, families, and communities.
Highlighting the interconnectedness of global resilience, Modi called for collective efforts to strengthen resilience and mitigate shared risks. He commended CDRI for its focus on supporting vulnerable regions, particularly Small Island Developing States, and emphasized India’s contributions, including initiatives undertaken during its G20 presidency.
Modi’s remarks come in response to a recent report by the World Meteorological Organization, which identified Asia as the most disaster-prone region in 2023. This underscores the urgent need for collaborative action on a global scale to address natural disasters effectively.
