On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alongside Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, will inaugurate the Tata Advanced Systems’ new aircraft complex in Vadodara, Gujarat, dedicated to producing the C-295 military aircraft. This facility represents India’s first private-sector final assembly line for military aircraft, setting a new milestone in the country’s defense manufacturing landscape.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced that this Vadodara-based plant, developed by Tata Advanced Systems, will initially assemble 40 C-295 aircraft. Meanwhile, Airbus, a global aviation giant, will directly supply 16 additional aircraft, reinforcing India’s growing capabilities in military aviation. The facility not only brings assembly but also involves an ecosystem supporting the aircraft’s complete life cycle—from assembly and testing to maintenance.
Tata’s C-295 initiative, in collaboration with India’s prominent public-sector defense entities like Bharat Electronics and Bharat Dynamics, also opens new opportunities for private micro, small, and medium enterprises, marking it as a truly collaborative national project. Prime Minister Modi first laid the foundation stone for this state-of-the-art assembly line in October 2022, demonstrating India’s commitment to advancing defense infrastructure.
During his visit to Gujarat, PM Modi will also announce development projects totaling over $590 million in the Amreli district, including a newly developed “Bharat Mata” Sarovar in Dudhala. This project, a joint effort between the Gujarat government and the Dholakia Foundation, follows a public-private partnership (PPP) model. Additionally, Modi’s tour will involve the inauguration of rail, road, water, and tourism projects in key regions, enhancing infrastructure for the people of Amreli, Jamnagar, Morbi, and several other districts in Gujarat.
