Thousands of yoga enthusiasts gathered at New York’s iconic Times Square to celebrate International Yoga Day, transforming one of the world’s busiest intersections into a vibrant space for wellness, mindfulness, and unity. The annual event, known as “Solstice in Times Square: Mind Over Madness Yoga,” once again showcased the growing global appeal of yoga and its role in promoting physical and mental well-being.
Participants from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds joined multiple yoga sessions throughout the day, practicing amid the bustling atmosphere of Times Square. The event highlighted this year’s International Yoga Day theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” emphasizing the importance of maintaining health and balance throughout life.
Leading the celebrations was renowned yoga expert Dr. H.R. Nagendra, President of S-VYASA University, who underscored yoga’s significance as an ancient science that offers solutions for healthy living and holistic development. He noted that yoga helps create balance within the body and mind while providing tools to support healthy ageing through specialized breathing techniques and disciplined practice.
Members of the Indian diaspora described the gathering as both a cultural celebration and a symbol of global unity. They praised the international recognition of yoga and highlighted its ability to bring people together beyond national, cultural, and religious boundaries.
