In a 2-day gathering earlier this month, farmers from Australia, Canada, the United States, Tanzania, and Zambia gathered at the Punjab Agriculture University. 17 progressive farmers presented important experiences about their experience farming outside of India with their Indian peers.
The Punjab Sarkar-Kisan Milni and NRI Farmers’ Conclave: Experience Exchange for Punjab Farmers’ Welfare, hosted for the economic empowerment of the farmers in Punjab, India, is now in its second edition.
For the uninitiated, NRI farmers significantly contributed to raising awareness of the agrarian issue at home. The purpose of the gathering was for people in the farming business and associated professions to share their thoughts, opinions, and experiences. Along with giving advice on how to resolve ongoing agrarian concerns, the diaspora urged Indian farmers at the conclave to increase their agricultural expertise and be receptive to cooperative farming.
During the milni (conference), two books were published: “Roots of Prosperity: The Incredible Saga of Punjabi Farmers in Foreign Lands” and “Farmers-Scientists’ Evergreen Bond: PAU’s Colossal Feat.” The Vice Chancellor of PAU conducted a dinner gathering the night before the conclave started to welcome the participating NRI farmers. Those present welcomed the attempt to bring together members of the global farming community. NRI farmers concurred that there is a need now for creative solutions to the problems encountered by individuals in their industry everywhere.
