Nalanda Roy, Ph.D., a professor in the Department of Political Science and International Studies at Georgia Southern University, has been honored with the prestigious Noam Chomsky Global Connections Shining Star Research Award for her outstanding contributions to global affairs, international relations, and maritime security in South and Southeast Asia.
Reflecting on the honor, Roy humbly attributed her success to the support of her family, emphasizing the sacrifices made during countless sleepless nights to achieve this milestone. She echoed Malcolm Gladwell’s words, “Who you are cannot be separated from where you have been,” acknowledging her roots and the key figures in her journey.
The Noam Chomsky Global Connections Shining Star Research Award is given to scholars who demonstrate exceptional leadership in education, global research, and promoting human well-being. Roy’s experience spans over 20 years, during which she has contributed extensively to international relations.
Her expertise, particularly in topics like the South China Sea conflicts and Indonesian fragmentation, has placed her at the forefront of global geopolitical discussions. As a result, she has authored influential books and serves in numerous professional organizations, including as the program chair for the International Studies Association’s South Asia in World Politics sector and as senior editor for the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of International Studies.
