Prime Minister Narendra Modi began a two-day tour on May 29, covering Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal to unveil infrastructure and development projects worth over $9 billion. Originally scheduled to start in Sikkim, Modi was unable to reach Gangtok due to poor weather. Instead, he addressed citizens virtually from Bagdogra.
During the “Sikkim@50” event, Modi inaugurated a $90 million hospital in Namchi, a passenger ropeway in Gyalshing, and unveiled a statue of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Gangtok. He also unveiled a commemorative coin and stamp to mark the state’s golden jubilee celebration.
In West Bengal, Modi laid the foundation stone for a $121 million City Gas Distribution project in Alipurduar and Cooch Behar, which will deliver piped natural gas to 250,000 homes and establish 19 CNG stations.
Later that evening, Modi arrived in Bihar to inaugurate a $144 million terminal at Patna airport, designed to handle 10 million passengers annually. He also launched a civil enclave project at Bihta airport near Patna, estimated at $169 million, aimed at strengthening the state’s educational infrastructure.
On May 30, in Karakat, Bihar, Modi will roll out projects totaling over $582 million, including the $359 million Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Plant in Aurangabad. Additional highlights include upgrades to national highways and a new rail link between Son Nagar and Mohammad Ganj costing $16 million.
Modi’s final stop will be Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, where he will inaugurate infrastructure projects worth approximately $251 million. This includes the $25 million Chunniganj Metro to Kanpur Central extension, a $100 million Panki Thermal Power unit, and a $112 million Ghatampur Power Plant.
He will also open new power substations, sewage treatment facilities, and key roads supporting Kanpur’s industrial and defense connectivity, while distributing benefits under social welfare programs like PM Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojna.
