Prime Minister Narendra Modi reinforced India’s longstanding relationship with Seychelles during his state visit by participating in cultural, spiritual, and diplomatic engagements across the island nation. His itinerary highlighted the deep-rooted friendship between the two countries while emphasizing their shared heritage and strong people-to-people connections.
During his visit to Victoria, the Prime Minister paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at the Peace Park, where Gandhi’s statue symbolizes peace, harmony, and global unity. Reflecting on the occasion, Modi stated that Gandhi’s principles continue to inspire generations in their pursuit of justice, peace, and human dignity. He added that the values championed by the Indian freedom leader remain relevant in creating a better future for people worldwide.
The Prime Minister also visited the Arulmigu Navasakthi Vinayagar Temple, one of Seychelles’ most prominent Hindu places of worship. Offering prayers at the temple, he expressed hope that Lord Ganesha would bless everyone with wisdom, strength, and prosperity. Modi also acknowledged the efforts of the Seychelles Hindu Kovil Sangam, praising the organization for preserving Indian traditions and promoting cultural and spiritual awareness within the island nation.
These visits reflected India’s commitment to nurturing centuries-old civilizational ties with Seychelles, which is home to a vibrant community of Indian origin. Cultural exchanges and shared traditions have remained a cornerstone of bilateral relations, further strengthening cooperation beyond diplomacy.
Earlier during the visit, Modi attended Seychelles’ National Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour, commemorating the country’s Golden Jubilee of Independence. Congratulating the Seychellois people on their remarkable journey over the past five decades, he reaffirmed India’s role as a trusted development partner and close friend. He noted that both nations continue to deepen cooperation through shared democratic values, mutual respect, and expanding people-to-people engagement.
The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to President Dr. Patrick Herminie, the Seychellois government, and the country’s citizens for inviting him to participate in the milestone celebrations. Sharing moments from the event, he described the occasion as a meaningful reflection of the strong and enduring partnership between the two nations.
Highlighting defense cooperation, Modi noted that contingents from the Assam Regiment of the Indian Army and the Indian Navy proudly participated in the National Day parade. Their presence, he said, showcased the growing strategic partnership and enduring friendship that continue to strengthen India-Seychelles relations across multiple sectors.
