Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm welcome at the White House in Washington DC from United States President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. The interaction between the leaders was characterized by laughter and engaging conversations during the cordial reception.
Before his visit to the White House, PM Modi had productive meetings with prominent executives, including Gary E Dickerson, the President and CEO of Applied Materials, Sanjay Mehrotra, President and CEO of Micron Technology, and H Lawrence Culp Jr, Chairman and CEO of General Electric Aerospace.
Commencing his day at the ‘Skilling for Future’ event, PM Modi highlighted the pivotal role of the India-US partnership in driving sustainable and inclusive global growth. He emphasized the need for a talent pipeline and acknowledged the top-notch educational institutions and advanced technologies in the United States, complemented by India’s vast young workforce. PM Modi expressed his belief that this partnership would serve as the engine for global progress.
PM Modi also underscored the Indian government’s initiatives to secure a promising future for students, such as the implementation of the New Education Policy and the integration of education and skilling. Under the Skill India program, India has successfully trained over “15 billion people” in areas like artificial intelligence, blockchain, and drone technology. The Prime Minister encouraged American students to explore opportunities in India, highlighting the ongoing tech partnership and the presence of numerous American teachers already engaged in India.
Proposing an India-US teachers’ exchange program, PM Modi emphasized the importance of increased collaboration between scientists, entrepreneurs, and Indian institutions. He mentioned the Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) launched in 2015, which has facilitated the visit of 750 faculty members from the US to India.
In the coming days, PM Modi is scheduled to attend a state dinner hosted by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. He will also address a Joint Sitting of the US Congress and participate in a luncheon hosted by Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Additionally, the Prime Minister will engage with business leaders from 20 prominent American companies and address a gathering of over 1,500 diaspora and business leaders.
