Same Terrorism Will Come Back to Haunt You: Jaishankar Warns the West
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has warned Western countries that terrorism growing in Pakistan is not just a regional issue but a global threat.
During an interview with European media outlet Euractiv, Jaishankar pointed out that Osama bin Laden had lived for years in a Pakistani military town, raising questions about why such a dangerous terrorist felt safe there. He said the world must realize that terrorism targeting India today will eventually affect other countries too.
He stressed that the global community should not ignore terrorist havens in Pakistan, as the same threats will one day come back to trouble them.
Jaishankar also addressed questions about India’s position on the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He said India believes that war cannot solve disputes and that peace must come through dialogue. India is not taking sides but continues to engage with both Ukraine and Russia.
He reminded Europe of India’s own experience with conflict, pointing out that just months after independence in 1947, Pakistan invaded Kashmir, and some Western countries supported Pakistan at the time. He questioned how those same nations now speak of international principles while ignoring past actions.
Talking about the changing global order, Jaishankar said the world is becoming multipolar, and Europe must now make independent decisions based on its own interests. He noted that terms like “strategic autonomy” are now common in Europe, and that’s why India is keen on strengthening ties with the European Union.
