India recorded a substantial increase in its Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue in October 2026, with gross collections climbing nearly 23% year-on-year to more than $24.30 billion. The latest provisional government figures indicate continued momentum in economic activity, supported by higher domestic transactions and a considerable rise in tax receipts from imported goods.
Revenue generated through domestic sales grew 15.8% compared with the same period last year, crossing $16.73 billion. Meanwhile, GST collections from imports regis
tered a stronger increase of 42.2%, reaching approximately $7.60 billion. The figures highlight the contribution of both domestic consumption and international trade to India’s expanding tax revenues.
The October collections included $4.52 billion in Central GST (CGST), $5.40 billion in State GST (SGST), and $14.41 billion in Integrated GST (IGST). The distribution reflects the contribution of different GST components to the overall revenue pool.
During the month, GST refunds also increased by 6.5% annually to approximately $2.94 billion. Even after accounting for these refunds, net GST revenue demonstrated stronger growth, rising 25.6% to around $21.36 billion.
This represented a considerable increase from the approximately $18.22 billion recorded in October of the previous year. The faster expansion in net collections compared with gross revenue indicates improved tax realization during the reporting period.
Overall, October’s figures underline the strengthening of India’s tax collection performance, with domestic commercial activity and import transactions both contributing to the increase. The latest revenue performance also highlights the growing role of GST in supporting government finances.
