
Indian films and television series reached a major global milestone on Netflix, recording 688 million views during the first six months of 2026. The achievement highlights the increasing international popularity of Indian storytelling and the country’s expanding influence in the global entertainment industry.
According to Netflix’s latest “What We Watched” report, India became the largest contributor to non-English film viewership on the platform between January and June 2026. The country also ranked third worldwide in overall film viewership, following the United States and the United Kingdom, reflecting the strong demand for Indian content among audiences across different regions.
Indian movies made a significant impact on Netflix’s global rankings, with four films securing spots in the platform’s Global Top 100 Films list. Among them, “Dhurandhar” emerged as the top-performing Indian film, attracting 37 million views worldwide. Another notable achievement came from “Made in Korea,” which became the first South Indian film to reach the top position on Netflix’s Global Non-English Films chart, marking a new milestone for regional cinema on the international stage.
Indian television content also continued to gain global recognition. “Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web” became the highest-ranked Indian series on Netflix’s Global Top 100 TV list. Other popular Indian shows, including “The Great Indian Kapil Show,” “Maamla Legal Hai,” and “Kohrra,” also secured places among Netflix’s Global Top 500 series, demonstrating the growing appeal of Indian series worldwide.
The strong performance of Indian movies and shows reflects the rising demand for diverse narratives, regional storytelling, and original content from India. Streaming platforms have played a key role in helping Indian creators reach audiences beyond traditional markets, allowing films and series in multiple languages to gain international visibility.
