The National Alliance of Indian Organizations (NAIO), in partnership with the Consulate General of India in New York, officially launched the curtain raiser for Azadi Ka Mahotsav, setting the stage for a landmark celebration that will commemorate India’s 80th Independence Day alongside the United States’ 250th anniversary. The event, held at the Indian Consulate in New York, brought together community leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals, media representatives, and members of numerous Indian-American organizations to highlight the importance of greater collaboration within the diaspora.
The evening began with a welcome by Master of Ceremonies Madhu Pareek, followed by a traditional Ganesh Vandana that marked the ceremonial opening of the program. Organizers used the gathering to introduce NAIO’s long-term vision of creating a nationwide platform that connects Indian-American organizations and encourages stronger engagement across communities.
Dr. Raj Bhayani, Founder Trustee of NAIO, emphasized that the alliance aims to unite organizations representing social, cultural, educational, professional, religious, and business interests under a common mission. He explained that fostering cooperation among these diverse groups would strengthen the community’s collective voice while creating new opportunities for future generations of Indian Americans.
Delivering the keynote address, Consul General Binaya Pradhan praised NAIO’s efforts to bring together the Indian diaspora and reinforce the growing partnership between India and the United States. He encouraged community members to work collectively by embracing democratic values, civic participation, and public service to deepen bilateral ties.
Several NAIO leaders also shared the organization’s strategic plans for nationwide expansion. Chintu Patel described the alliance as being in its early stages and urged community members to become active participants in shaping its future. Harry Singh Bolla highlighted the importance of civic awareness and greater political engagement, while Naveen Shah presented the alliance’s organizational roadmap for building an inclusive national network. Kenny Desai outlined plans for outreach efforts that will take NAIO representatives across multiple states to connect with local organizations and expand membership.
The event also featured remarks from respected community leaders, including Dr. Navin Mehta, Dr. Dipak Nandi, H. R. Shah, Dr. Datta Noori, and Gary Sikka, all of whom emphasized the value of unity within the Indian-American community. Attendees enjoyed a patriotic performance of “Jai Ho,” viewed a promotional video showcasing upcoming initiatives, and participated in an interactive media session with NAIO leadership.
Organizers concluded the evening by unveiling a preview of the main Azadi Ka Mahotsav celebration, scheduled for August 15, 2026, at the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale, New York. Expected to attract thousands of attendees, the event will celebrate freedom, cultural diversity, and the enduring friendship between India and the United States while reinforcing NAIO’s mission of serving as a unifying voice for Indian Americans across the nation.
