Indian-American journalist T Vishnudatta Jayaraman, founder of South Asian Herald, received recognition at the New York State Assembly for his contributions to journalism and his coverage of the South Asian diaspora community in the United States.
The honor was presented during a special event held at the State Capitol in Albany, where New York Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar awarded Jayaraman an official proclamation recognizing his professional achievements and the growing impact of South Asian Herald as a media platform.
While addressing the gathering, Rajkumar described South Asian Herald as a respected news outlet that highlights stories and issues related to the South Asian diaspora across the United States. She noted that the platform has become an important voice representing a vibrant and influential community.
Speaker Pro Tempore Pamela Hunter, who presided over the Assembly session, also congratulated Jayaraman and extended best wishes for the continued growth and success of the publication.
The recognition adds to a series of recent honors received by Jayaraman during Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month celebrations in the United States. Earlier this month, several members of the US Congress, including Jonathan Jackson, Danny Davis, Shri Thanedar, and Suhas Subramanyam, presented him with a Congressional Record and commemorative medal during a special event hosted by Global Eye magazine on Capitol Hill.
The ceremony acknowledged Jayaraman’s contributions to journalism, community engagement, and representation of South Asian voices in American media. His work through South Asian Herald has focused on covering stories related to Indian Americans and the broader South Asian diaspora, including politics, culture, business, and public affairs.
The recognition at the New York State Assembly reflects the growing visibility and influence of Indian-American journalists and media professionals in the United States. It also highlights the increasing role diaspora-focused media organizations play in connecting communities and amplifying diverse perspectives across American society.
South Asian Herald has continued expanding its presence as a dedicated news platform covering developments relevant to South Asians living in the US and around the world. The publication has gained attention for its focus on diaspora achievements, policy issues, and cultural representation.
The event in Albany formed part of broader celebrations recognizing contributions made by Asian American and Pacific Islander communities across different sectors, including media, public service, education, and civic engagement.
