India ranks among the world’s top five countries with rapidly growing technology talent, with a remarkable 14-fold increase in AI skills mentioned on LinkedIn profiles in the last seven years, as revealed by a LinkedIn report.
The ‘Future of Work: State of Work@AI’ report from LinkedIn highlights that Canada, Finland, Singapore, India, and Ireland lead in embracing AI capabilities swiftly. Various sectors, including retail, education, and financial services, are integrating these skills, extending beyond the tech industry.
In India, over 43% of the workforce reported increased AI usage by their organizations over the past year. This surge led to 60% of workers and 7% of Generation Z professionals recognizing the value of acquiring AI skills for enhancing career prospects. For 2023, the majority of Indians intend to gain at least one digital skill, with machine learning and AI topping their priorities.
The report’s analysis of 25 countries indicates that after the introduction of ChatGPT, a popular AI chatbot capable of responding to diverse written queries, the percentage of LinkedIn members adding AI skills to their profiles almost doubled. This figure rose from 7.7% between May and November 2022 to 13% between November 2022 and June 2023.
Notably, India places significant emphasis on soft skills like creativity and communication in the AI era. The report reveals that 91% of top executives in India acknowledge the rising significance of AI skills, surpassing the global average of 72%. A majority of Indian workers (69%) also believe that skills like creativity and problem-solving empower them to approach work with a fresh perspective.
Certain professions exhibit significant AI potential, including software engineering (96%), customer service (76%), and sales (59%). In contrast, nursing (6%), environmental health and safety specialists (3%), and oil field operators (1%) possess fewer skills that AI can augment.
