In response to the devastating terror attack in Baisaran meadow, Pahalgam, which claimed multiple civilian lives on Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah conducted a high-level security review at the site on Wednesday. Arriving by helicopter, Shah surveyed the violence-struck region from the air before walking the grounds under tight security.
The attack, one of the gravest in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, has triggered a state of high alert across the valley. Though the official death toll has not been confirmed, the assault—targeting tourists in the scenic meadow—has drawn widespread condemnation.
Before arriving at the scene, Shah paid emotional tributes to the victims in Srinagar and met grieving families outside the Police Control Room. In a message shared on X (formerly Twitter), he reaffirmed the Centre’s determination to fight terrorism: “Bharat will not bend to terror… The culprits will not be spared.”
A National Investigation Agency (NIA) team, led by a Deputy Inspector General, also reached Baisaran to join forces with the Jammu and Kashmir Police. According to sources, the NIA is tasked with forensic analysis and deeper investigation into the attack, which has been claimed by the Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Officials confirmed that the NIA’s involvement signals the seriousness of the case, with the agency expected to play a pivotal role in tracing those behind the violence and bringing them to justice.
