India and Finland have taken another step toward strengthening their economic partnership with the signing of two industry-focused Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at expanding trade, investment, and business collaboration. The agreements were announced during Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal’s high-level visit to Finland, highlighting the growing importance of bilateral economic engagement between the two nations.
The visit comes after India and Finland elevated their relationship to a Strategic Partnership in Digitalisation and Sustainability in March 2026. It also follows the conclusion of the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which is expected to create new opportunities for businesses, investment flows, and innovation-driven cooperation.
During his discussions with Finland’s Minister of Economic Affairs Dr. Sakari Puisto, Piyush Goyal focused on strengthening collaboration in financial markets, innovation, enterprise financing, and expanding bilateral trade opportunities. Both sides explored ways to encourage greater participation from companies and create a stronger business ecosystem.
Two significant MoUs were signed between the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Business Finland, as well as between CII and the Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK). These agreements are designed to improve institutional cooperation, support business partnerships, and encourage companies from both countries to explore new opportunities.
Indian and Finnish businesses also discussed potential partnerships in emerging and high-growth sectors, including digital technologies, space, clean energy, bioeconomy, circular economy, infrastructure, and advanced manufacturing. The collaboration aims to promote innovation and create new avenues for sustainable economic growth.
During the visit, Goyal emphasized the shared goal of India and Finland to double bilateral trade by 2030. He highlighted that the India-EU FTA could further support expansion in areas such as manufacturing, investment, technology development, and innovation-based industries.
The strengthening of India-Finland economic ties reflects both countries’ commitment to building a long-term partnership focused on sustainability, technology, and business growth. The newly signed agreements are expected to enhance cooperation between industries and open new possibilities for companies seeking global expansion.
