A day after securing a third consecutive electoral victory for the NDA in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reaffirmed his government’s commitment to intensifying its campaign against illegal infiltration, describing it as central to protecting the state’s identity.
Speaking after the decisive mandate, Sarma expressed gratitude to the people of Assam for placing their trust in the leadership of Narendra Modi and the ruling alliance. He stated that the renewed mandate would enable the government to accelerate development initiatives while maintaining a firm stance on security-related concerns.
The BJP-led alliance registered a strong victory in the state, further consolidating its political position and leaving the opposition, including the Indian National Congress, significantly behind in the final tally. The scale of the win has reinforced the ruling party’s dominance in the region.
Sarma emphasised that the fight against illegal infiltration would continue with the same intensity, framing it as a long-term effort tied to safeguarding Assam’s demographic and cultural balance. He noted that the issue remains a priority for the government and will be pursued alongside broader governance goals.
At the same time, the Chief Minister highlighted expectations of accelerated development across the state, signalling a dual focus on economic progress and internal security. He suggested that the electoral outcome provides a strong foundation for policy continuity and implementation.
The results are also being viewed in a wider political context, with leaders pointing to their implications for the eastern and northeastern regions. As the government begins its new term, attention will be on how it balances its security agenda with development priorities, and how effectively it translates electoral momentum into sustained governance outcomes.
