Hasan Minhaj has been selected for the American Advertising Federation’s 2026 Cultural Force Award, an honor recognizing a public figure outside the advertising industry whose work has influenced how brands engage with audiences and communicate cultural ideas.
The American Advertising Federation said the award highlights individuals whose creative work has contributed to cultural conversations, questioned established narratives and encouraged audiences to look at issues from different perspectives. AAF President and CEO Steve Pacheco said the recognition is intended for people whose influence extends beyond their primary field and has an impact on the wider culture.
The announcement follows the worldwide release of Netflix’s Best of the Best on September 18. The film was produced by Minhaj’s company, 186K Films, and features Minhaj as both a co-writer and actor. He co-wrote the project with Prashanth Venkataramanujam, while Lena Khan directed the film. The cast also includes Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Priyanka Kedia.
Minhaj has built a career across stand-up comedy, television, podcasts and digital media. He is a two-time Peabody Award winner and is known for the Netflix special Homecoming King and the political satire series Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj. The series earned a Peabody Award, an Emmy and a Television Academy Honor.
He is also the co-founder and CEO of 186K Films and hosts the podcast and digital series Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know. Earlier in his career, Minhaj worked as a senior correspondent on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
The Cultural Force Award was introduced by the American Advertising Federation in 2023 as a counterpart to the Advertising Hall of Achievement, which recognizes advertising professionals age 40 and younger. Previous Cultural Force Award recipients include former NBA All-Star Chris Paul in 2023, actor and producer Issa Rae in 2024, and model Ashley Graham in 2025.
Minhaj has also maintained direct connections with the advertising industry. He serves as the face of Adobe’s multi-year Acrobat campaign and appears as a marketing executive in The Marketers, a branded comedy series created in collaboration with Adobe.
