CEOs from prominent semiconductor companies like Foxconn, Micron, and AMD expressed their support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statements during the SemiconIndia 2023 event in Gandhinagar. They showed optimism about investing in India’s semiconductor industry.
The chairman of Foxconn, Young Liu, commended the Indian government’s determination and expressed confidence in its future. He drew parallels with Taiwan’s successful semiconductor industry, emphasizing the importance of trust and collaboration to overcome challenges. Liu pledged Taiwan’s commitment to being India’s reliable partner in the semiconductor sector.
SEMI’s President and CEO, Ajit Minocha, highlighted the favorable alignment of geopolitics, domestic politics, and private sector capacities in India, creating opportunities for semiconductor production investments. He praised Micron’s investment in India, predicting that the country would become a significant semiconductor player in Asia.
Mark Papermaster, EVP and CTO of AMD, announced AMD’s plans to invest approximately $400 million in the next five years to enhance R&D capabilities. He revealed that AMD would establish its largest design center in Bengaluru.
Dr. Prabu Raja, President of Semiconductor Product Group at Applied Materials, expressed confidence in Prime Minister Modi’s vision for India’s role in the global semiconductor industry. He emphasized the need for collaborative partnerships to drive progress in the sector.
Anirudh Devgan, President and CEO of Cadence, expressed satisfaction with India’s semiconductor investments and the government’s support for the entire ecosystem.
Anil Aggrawal, Chairman of Vedanta Group, highlighted Gujarat as the ideal location for India’s “Silicon Valley” and acknowledged the Prime Minister’s efforts to create opportunities for the country’s youth.
Sanjay Mehrotra, President and CEO of Micron Technology, thanked Prime Minister Modi for his vision to transform India into a global semiconductor hub. He expressed pride in the establishment of a semiconductor assembly and test facility in Gujarat, which is expected to create numerous job opportunities.
The conference, themed ‘Catalysing India’s Semiconductor Ecosystem,’ brought together industry leaders to showcase India’s semiconductor strategy and policies aimed at making the country a significant player in the global semiconductor industry.
