The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA)-Chicago took part in the Memorial Day Parade held in Arlington Heights on May 25, joining local residents, veterans, and various community organizations in paying tribute to US service members who lost their lives in military service. The event brought together multiple groups to honor the sacrifices made by armed forces personnel.
Organizers highlighted that Arlington Heights has lost 67 residents in service to the United States, making the annual Memorial Day parade a deeply significant tradition for the local community. The observance serves as a moment of reflection and remembrance for families, veterans, and residents who gather each year to honor those who died in service.
FIA-Chicago played a leading role in representing the Indian-American community during the parade. Several Indian diaspora organizations and community leaders participated alongside the group, showcasing strong engagement and unity within the community.
Participants included representatives from organizations such as Sanatan Ecosystem, Sewa International, Global Indian Diaspora, Shree Jalaram Mandir, Maharashtra Mandal, Overseas Friends of BJP, Ekal Vidyalaya, Vishva Hindu Parishad of America, Karni Sena, and Hindu Women Network, along with other local community members and leaders. Their collective participation reflected the growing visibility of Indian-American organizations in local civic and cultural events across the United States.
A notable aspect of the delegation was the presence of Indian Army Brigadier Navin Ahuja and Indian Army veteran Arvind Ankleshwaria. Both individuals were formally acknowledged by the parade committee during the ceremony. Organizers also recognized active-duty and retired military personnel as part of the broader Memorial Day tribute, highlighting shared respect for military service across communities.
The participation of FIA-Chicago and other Indian-American groups underscored the community’s efforts to engage in public remembrance events and contribute to local traditions of honoring fallen service members.
