Penn State Health has promoted Dr. Ajay Saini to the newly created role of Medical Director of Quality, effective immediately. With over two decades of medical experience, Dr. Saini has previously served as the inaugural chair of medicine at Hampden Medical Center and as regional medical director of inpatient services for Penn State Health Medical Group. He also teaches internal medicine at Penn State College of Medicine.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Dr. Saini emphasized the importance of innovative healthcare solutions and performance monitoring systems to ensure top-tier hospital rankings in quality and patient safety. His responsibilities will include developing new safety initiatives, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and collaborating with leadership across Penn State Health hospitals.
Dr. Kenneth Wood, Chief Medical Officer at Penn State Health, praised Dr. Saini’s deep understanding of the system and leadership in driving improvements in patient outcomes. In 2024, three Penn State Health hospitals ranked in the top quartile nationwide for quality and accountability, reflecting the organization’s commitment to excellence.
Dr. Saini earned his MBBS from Government Medical College in Patiala, India, completed his internal medicine residency at Mount Sinai/VA Medical Center in the Bronx, and holds an MBA in healthcare from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Certified by the National Association for Healthcare Quality, he brings a wealth of expertise to his new role.
