Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on his inaugural official state visit to the United States from June 21st to June 24th. The visit holds significant diplomatic importance for India in the realm of global politics in 2023.
During his visit, PM Modi will commence his schedule in New York, where he will lead the International Yoga Day event at the United Nations Secretariat. This event showcases Modi’s role as a representative of the traditional Indian practice of yoga, which has gained widespread adoption worldwide since its inception in 2015.
Following his engagements in New York, Modi will travel to Washington, where he will engage in bilateral discussions with President Joe Biden, deliver an address to the US Congress, and meet with the Indian diaspora. President Biden has expressed his eagerness to meet with the Indian Prime Minister, reflecting the high level of interest and anticipation surrounding the visit.
In Washington, the Prime Minister will partake in various activities, including a ceremonial welcome at the South Lawn of the White House, an address to the US Congress (his second appearance), and a state dinner hosted by President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. Additionally, Modi will attend a lunch hosted by the US State Department and deliver a speech at an event organized by the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, where he will have the opportunity to engage with American CEOs and leaders.
Throughout his visit, PM Modi is expected to emphasize India’s accomplishments, such as its economic growth, digital payment infrastructure, and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, through various speeches and interactions. The visit will conclude with an address to the Indian diaspora at the Ronald Reagan Centre in Washington, after which the Prime Minister will depart from the United States.
