US President Joe Biden is scheduled for a four-day visit to India to attend the G20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi during September. The focus of this visit will be on collaborating with member nations to address pressing global concerns, including climate change and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The White House officially confirmed these plans on Tuesday.
According to a statement released by the White House, President Biden and fellow G20 leaders will engage in discussions pertaining to the transition towards cleaner energy sources, as well as strategies to combat climate change. An additional topic on the agenda will be bolstering the capabilities of multilateral development banks to address poverty and other worldwide challenges.
Scheduled for September 9 and 10, the G20 Summit will be hosted by India. This event holds significance as it provides a platform for world leaders to collectively address complex issues. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States in June saw President Biden expressing anticipation for the G20 Summit to be held in New Delhi.
During his time in the Indian capital, President Biden is also expected to acknowledge Prime Minister Modi’s leadership in heading the G20 and reaffirm the United States’ dedication to the G20 as a premier platform for economic cooperation. This commitment is underscored by the United States’ hosting of the G20 in the year 2026.
The official statement from the White House declared, “President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. will travel to New Delhi, India, from September 7-10 to attend the G20 Leaders’ Summit.” The discussions during the summit will encompass various collaborative initiatives aimed at addressing global challenges. This includes tackling climate change, mitigating the socio-economic consequences stemming from the conflict in Ukraine, and enhancing the effectiveness of multilateral development institutions such as the World Bank to combat poverty and tackle global problems.
With India currently holding the G20 presidency from December 1, 2022, to November 30, 2023, the nation has been actively facilitating various meetings across its territories. This visit by President Biden marks a pivotal moment for international cooperation and addressing shared global concerns.
